How long have you been blogging?

For almost 5 years now (It’ll be 5 years in March). I started just to keep track of what I was reading (before I knew of Goodreads) as I’d just read The Jane Austen Book Club for the second time without realising it until I got to the end.

Other than reviews what can we expect to see at your blog?

I mostly do reviews, but the occasional author guest post or Q&A will also appear. I’m looking at new features for this year.

What are some of the highlights of your blogging career?

The first time I received an unsolicited ARC was pretty special, but the best part is getting to interact with my favourite authors. Meeting authors and having them recognise my name from the blog or twitter still shocks me. The day Robin Hobb shared one of my posts on her Facebook page was extraordinary. I got around 1000 hits in an hour and couldn’t figure out what was going on. For her to acknowledge my post was pretty special.

Share with us some of your favourite genres:

In both YA and adult I love fantasy, sci-fi and contemporaries. I will read just about anything. Except poetry.

Share with us some of your favourite books/series:

International: I love Katie McGarry’s Pushing the Limits series. Maggie Steifvater’s Raven Cycle, everything by Julie Kagawa. I love Robin Hobb’s books, she has created an amazing world.

Australian: I love the Every series by Ellie Marney, the Tomorrow series by John Marsden will always be a favourite.  Illuminae and Risk were two of my favourites in 2015.

How long have you been blogging?

At Genie In A Book since September 2014

Other than reviews what can we expect to see at your blog?

Blog tours, Top Ten Tuesdays and other memes, my weekly news updates, discussions and other features which are currently in the works!

What are some of the highlights of your blogging career?

Spending time with other members of the Aussie YA blogging community at events like the Hachette Blogger nights, Penguin Teen Australia Live and BTCYA have been fantastic! Getting the chance to meet other like-minded bookworms in person is always a great experience, and provides another opportunity to fangirl about the novels we’re excited about. Having a snippet of my review featured inside a book was also pretty exciting for me (If I Speak True by Jessica L. Brooks).

Share with us some of your favourite genres:

Obviously YA will always be special to me, and within that I’ll be open to pretty much anything from historical fiction, a sci-fi adventure, contemporary romance and everything in between. Each of those sub-genres have novels which I’ve loved, and the great thing about YA is that it holds such a diverse range of titles which is being expanded all the time with the new releases we try to keep track of!

Share with us some of your favourite books/series:

Define ‘some’? I’ll try not to ramble on too much here, but there are a ‘few’ books which are some all-time favourites of mine:

  • Spark/Stray by Rachael Craw – the perfect balance between scifi/contemporary/thriller
  • Flora series by Jessica L. Brooks – magical realism at its finest
  • The Beast’s Garden/Bitter Greens/The Wild Girl by Kate Forsyth – magnificent fairytale retellings, beautifully told
  • The Rosie Black Chronicles by Lara Morgan – the series that first made YA scifi a standout to me
  • Anything by Jackie French, especially her Matilda saga which I’m currently reading the latest book of (The Ghost by the Billabong)
  • Thrillers by Rebecca James, contemporaries by Sarah Ayoub and Gabrielle Tozer, Justine Larbalestier’s thought-provoking reads, scifi’s co-written by Amie Kaufman..basically ALL THE AUSSIE YA.

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging for five whole years, come November, though I’ve only celebrated… one of those years. Evidently, this calls for a massive celebration this year!

Other than reviews, what can we expect to see at your blog?

I do a bunch of features like my “Books for when you’re…” series of posts, where I come up with a topic (a sobbing mess, wanting to be somewhere else, wanting a character with determination) and then recommend a couple of books/characters that I feel fit the subject. I also have a “Character Takeover” feature, where I show a selection of items that I think a character would use/like/wear.

What are some of the highlights of your blogging career?

Getting to do interviews with some of my longtime favourite authors has been absolutely incredible, and though that’s not something I’ve done for a while I’m hoping to bring forward a few this year! Another massive highlight has been meeting all the lovely, amazing book bloggers that make up out community. I haven’t been able to real-life meet any of them yet, but the community spirit, kindness and friendship is so… incredible. I’m so grateful to the bloggers who make up this community!

Share with us some of your favourite genres:

Dystopian and Fantasy, the former being my last favourite and the latter my current. Right now Fantasy has everything I want and everything I need, with heroines and heroes who are fantastic and witty and clever and generally amazing, plot lines that are stunning and magic. MAGIC! I have a bit of a thing for magic. I am also constantly surprising myself with the fact my two all time favourite books are non-fiction and I never read non-fiction.

Share with us some of your favourite books/series:

I’m currently rereading Inkheart by Cornelia Funke which has done the amazing and gotten me into and out of a reading slump in 90 pages. That’s the first “big” book I ever read and I have such fond memories of the whole series, it really got me into reading older level books and made me passionate about a series, characters, books. I also have a passion for the Throne of Glass series, My Family and Other Animals (or any Durrell for he is a king of words), the Ouran High School Host Club manga series and the Wandering Son manga.

How long have you been blogging?

Only about 3 weeks! I know, such a newbie. I’ve loved reading ever since I learnt how to, and since I’ve started blogging I’ve fallen in love with it just as much. I feel blessed to be so immersed in the community and being able to have my own platform to voice my personal opinion on the literature I read. Furthermore I think it’s amazing people actually comment and discuss my content! It’s the best thing ever and I wish I started sooner.

Other than reviews, what can we expect to see on your blog?

At this point hauls, weekly memes and reading challenges as well as more miscellaneous posts about movies and other things I enjoy. I definitely want to be posting more discussion posts as well. I maybe branching out to more non-fiction literature features as well, for example, I’m super passionate about fitness and health so some content about this would be something I’d love to look in to. My first giveaway is also coming up very soon! Since my blog is so new I feel as though I have a lot of room to stretch my feet and really find my bookish niche. Super exciting.

What are some of the highlights of your blogging career?

This may sound cheesy, and a bit silly, since I’ve been blogging for such a short period of time but one of the biggest highlights was probably when I noticed the same people coming back to comment on my posts. It’s just so cool thinking the posts I’m creating are actually getting read and that people like my blog enough to come back.

Share with us some of your favourite genres.

I mainly read a mix of young adult and adult but for the most part I find myself enjoying adult fiction a bit more. That being said I’ve still read some great YA. Two of my top two genres in any of those categories would be fantasy and historical fiction. If I find a book that combines those two elements I have to look into it more. I also love middle-grade adventure.

Share with us some of your favourite books/series.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett is one of my all time favourites. It’s an adult, historical fiction standalone and is set in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960s. It follows a group of female African-American maids (known as the Help in those days) working for the white upper class. This movie took me back in time and I truly experienced what it felt like to be in both of these heavily divided classes. It made me feel every emotion and I even cried (pretty rare for me when I’m reading). The movie adaptation for this book was near perfection, so you can always check this out as well. A couple of other books/series I’d recommend are The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling (standalone, adult contemporary), Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan (middle grade, adventure. fantasy) and Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden (standalone, historical fiction).

How long have you been blogging?

I’ve been blogging for just about a year. I ventured into the blogging world after obsessively watching people on YouTube making videos about books. Most of them seemed to have book blogs as well so I decided hey, about time I put pen to paper, or keyboard to screen if you’d like.

Other than reviews what can we expect to see at your blog?

I endeavour to post one to two reviews per week. Other than that on Wednesdays you can expect Top 5 Wednesday which is a weekly meme. Also, I participate in the occasional read-a-thon during which I’ll do posts related to that. And then there’s also the impulsive ramblings on life and such.

What are some of the highlights of your blogging career?

One of the best things would have to be finding this amazing book blogging community on Twitter and other social Media (Especially Aussie YA Bloggers!) I recently posted my 100th post on my blog which was a surprise since I managed to stay committed for that long. Also, receiving my first ARC from Simon and Schuster was incredible

Share with us some of your favourite genres?

Topping the list is YA Dystopia and Fantasy, I also enjoy high fantasy and crime fiction. And I have an undying love for Classics!

Share with us some of your favourite books/series

A Song of Ice and Fire series by George.R.R.Martin had me hooked. Everything by John Green. The Vampire Academy/Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead. Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan. Some of my favourite stand Alone novels would be Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and Everybody sees the ants by A.S.King. The List of my favourites could honestly go beyond infinity.

How long have you been blogging?

When this year hits May 2015, I will have been blogging for a year! Not that long, obviously but so far, only 9 months. I’m like a baby on the blogging world!

Other than reviews, what can we expect to see at your blog?

Everything and anything to do with fangirling! I put up discussions, movie/book trailers, my writing life, tags, memes. If I feel like I need to explode all my fangirling, I explode on my blog. I also do author interviews, mostly for indie authors breaking out in the biz and I also do spotlight and book tours/blitzes. I’m kind of everywhere.

What are some of the highlights of your blogging year?

I like lists so I shall list.

  1. Reaching 100 followers! (I know, I am very amateur)
  2. Receiving my first review copy which was from Harper Collins! I may have screamed a bit too much.
  3. Going to Harper Collin’s BTCYA event. That was heaps of fun! Meeting other bloggers and authors and buying heaps of books. I really hope they do another this year! This event is like heaven for book nerds!

Share with us some of your favourite genres.

Pretty much anything in the YA group! YA is my life. I do read classics, though and I’m trying to give graphics novels a try. I’m not going to explore the New Adult genre because I find that there’s just too much sex for me to actually appreciate the book and it’s writing. One day, I’ll branch out. Hopefully.

Share with us some of your favourite books/series.

“Choosing a favourite book/series is like picking a favourite child”. Sorry children.

The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas is definitely on that list because its awesomeness surpasses any words! The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices because Cassandra Clare introduced me to the YA world and I am eternally grateful to her for that. And her characters will always hold a special place in my heart. Stephanie Perkins books are on the list (Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door, Isla and the Happily Ever After) because her stories are full good times! And currently, I’m experiencing a Mara Dyer (by Michelle Hodkins) and All the Bright Places (by Jennifer Niven) book hangover.

How long have you been blogging?

I’ve been blogging as Nemo since 2012, but I also ran a successful blog under another name for several years, before privacy reasons forced me to restart anonymously.

Other than reviews, what can we expect to see at your blog?

I take part in book tours, and I like to promote books using memes such as Top Ten Tuesday and Waiting on Wednesday. In 2013 I did a year-long re-read of the Animorphs series (by K.A. Applegate) and continued talking about those books in 2014 with the 30 Day Animorphs Challenge, and in 2014 I also did an Everworld (also by Applegate) re-read. I’m yet to decide on my 2015 project.

What are some of the highlights of your blogging career?

I met Jay Kristoff at the launch of Stormdancer, and he gives the best hugs ever. I received a signed book from Lauren DeStefano, which I treasure. I’ve developed quite a good working relationship with Harlequin Australia and apart from being the one publishing company that continues to pop my blogging cherry (first auto-approve on Netgalley, first hard copy ARC, first blog tour) they also spoil me rotten.

Share with us some of your favourite genres:

I love young adult high fantasy, light sci-fi (including dystopian), contemporary with a paranormal twist (think Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma or Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver), and I’ve recently fallen head-over-heels for historical paranormal fiction.

Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead
